Will you please just reflect?

Monument..hmm...to design one..hmm...to have it represent something significant..how? how can i turn it into a piece of art yet still allowing it to tell a story? what is the story i wanted to convey through my monument?

we talked and thought alot about Great minds and looking back and forwards...i choose to reflect. Being a Disney kid, somehow, the 'Circle of Life was instantly brought up in my mind. I intend to sculpt a monument capable of allowing the patrons reflect on their circle of life. Thus the theme of 'Reflection' was also included...so the main theme of my monument is 'Reflection of your circle-life'

i was always also inspired by wheels, bicycle wheels and after doing some research, that became a part of the story i wanted to tell. the wheels signify the circle of our life..wheels rotate at all times, its just life life, it turns and changes at all times...so hopefully, the visitors will be seeing their life flashed through their minds when they look at my monument. i hope it breathes life into those who look at it. the water below acts as a mirror, thus creating a beautiful reflection.

learning about light, i was thinking of the amazing shadow effects in the day when the sunlight shines through the wheels, thus creating fascinating shapes on the grass. I was also thinking about the night when lightings could be added to add the aesthetic effect.

oh..how could we forget about bamboo?? the wheel is basically gonna be made from bamboo.. and so is the platform..

i look at it thinking about touching people's life when they reflect on their circle of life...hopefully one day i can make it a reality.

Adventure-reflection

adventure, thats how i comfort myself. 1st day at lecture after the long raya break and we were indeed surprisingly greeted by our new assignment-to visit a Jew cemetery. Keeps your eyes wide opened...yeap...and this Jew cemetery is located at Jalan Zainal Abidin..

Jews...who practice Judaism..ohyea...what instantly clicked to me was Adolf Hitler. Steeping into the Jew cemetery was weird, why say so? i mean its kinda spooky and eerie to disturb 'other's ' resting place...i was not really liking the idea. and im nt trying to be mean but the kid greeting us at the cemetery was weird.i mean my 1st impression was like a kid whose soul was sucked out by the spirits of the cemetery*(he had these huge eye bags)..he was just creepy to me..NO OFFENCE!!!!...

but walking around the cemetery, i just felt tranquil..life and death..this is occurs..Am i afraid of death? yes. am i prepared? guess not... at one point in life, if death is to come to me, i will fight for survival, but if its destined, then so be it...death..i don't feel like leaving my family behind..my parents, my sister, my dig, my grandparents, my friends, my memories...

Going for this cemetery trip just made me feel more appreciatve of what i have the blessings i receive

looking forward...2012

looking forward...yay...lets take a look at the future..anytime we want...and we had to stop at 2012??? is it too close ? i mean y nt look more forward into lets say 2050? isn't it better to be far-sighted?

alright..lets stop at 2012,a year predicted where apocalypse would break free. honestly, i believe if i was not in USM HBP, i would never rethink/touch anything about the 2012 catastrophe. i mean i have and i am entitled to my own opinion. considered a great mind or not, i don't really care. I mean, why can't we take 2012 as a year of anticipation-a year about jubilation, celebration? Hello? London Olympics 2012??? its a year where we celebrate togetherness, unity..isn't it something we should rather focus on rather than being sober ?

of 2012 were to occur, its gonna be God's will, who could therefore defy His will? paranoia will occur and in that situation, people would unleash their animalistic instinct, their inner beast to survive..what could i contribute? my prayer and my calmness to help others in need. I mean of course i wish i was SUperman or a superdoctor capable of healing the sick..but for once, get real, im only gonna be 21 then...all i can do is to pray..

SHhh,,,sweep away the negativity, why think disaster, like i said before, channel positivity! let us radiate calmness, let us celebrate a year of great dreams, lets just be united. i mean let us learn to love more than to be loved.

looking forward,,i will achieve greatness in life. not in mere and material achievement , but greatness for receiving the many lessons, blessings of the Lord....that's what i am looking forward of, living my life to my fullest and being thankful, grateful of my endless blessings..

what im gonna do about it??? scare the negativity away..haha(thks wengjen 4 d photo..n happy bday)

2012?? its just a matter of how you see it...towards the positive side or the negative side

oops! Looking Backwards

Looking backwards, peeping at the past, turning my heads back, stepping back into a time portal. How do we look backwards? as in do we just turn our heads back? or do we see at the reflection of ourselves in the mirror?

Reflection is DrIllias's main purpose of asking us to look back. So, what do you in yourself(today) and yourself(yesterday). Thats the main idea of reflecting back. Looking way within, into our inner growth.

through my days at HBP ..i see myself growing slowly, at a pace that i find comfortable. I learn to design, i learnt more about the person whom i dislike to become, i learnt about the persona i want to develop. I learnt more about self-development. Looking back is more than just peeping back at my previous assignments. To me, its more personal, its a way to see the growth in maturity the way we handle and bring ourselves-either the way we perform our assignments or the way we perceive each lecture.

do i see growth? Yes. and i would just like to add that i'm being more comfortable with the ME i am. i feel so blessed, i am so thankful of the numerous ways i have been blessed-with great friends, interesting yet provocative ideas that manage to spur my mind, chances to express and showcass my personality in ways i haven't been able to do before. And most importantly, i feel blessed to have my family with me(inside me) throughout this journey. They will always be my source of inspiration.

Thinking back of the previous lectures, i rmb Dr Illias's lucky lecture.(rabit and tortoise)..urban planning...leadership...scales....the 6 principles...the 7th habit...golden section..vision..

Great minds?Yes..i have met plenty here at USM...what about me? having a great mind or not..LIfe is not all about that to me..its about living it to the fullest based on each's potential

the way i look back is to be thankful of all HIS blessings , cherish the good time i had and also to grow within.

i love being me...the exotic me

My Approach to Survive

Assume the world is falling apart, its the end of this present time, all of us would be fighting to SURVIVE. My Question is, given the time to prepare for survive beforehand, would you prefer to survive looking good? looking Sexy yet managing to save your life?

To begin with, what is a survival kit?

So, a survival kit should be able to provide warmth, meet health, first aid needs, provide food/water, signal to rescues. Well, in every sense, my survival kit meets all requirement, acting as a "pocket/drawer" of different surviving tools, my surviving kit contains pockets at all compartments capable of storing sufficient necessities.

Intention/Outcome:
Thus, my survival kit invention would basically be about surviving yet looking great at the same time. My invention is a new design line of jackets, trench coats, sweaters, coats. What exactly makes my designs stand apart? With the aid of USM's own research-Water-based Epoxy Foam, this technology not only is able to provide more insulation to our human body, it is also environmental friendly and easy to be produced in a mass production.

The Epoxy foam would be inserted in layers of the clothing line providing enough insulation and acts as a armour against much physical action, thus providing protection. Using this green technology, living under turbulent and dramatic weather conditions would not be a problem.

How it functions as a Survival kit?? as just a mere garment???

how to fulfil its promise to meet health, first aid needs, provide food/water, signal to rescues????

simply easy with the aid of this new line of designs. Medicine, or USM invention-Haruan Spray for Burn/Wounds(health), streamy JMLS(communication), Jackfruit Seed Flour 2005(Food), other inventions or other stock could be stored safely inside the well designed pockets of the wardrobe. So, my survival kit is in short an insulation device storing various other survival tools.

Inspiration:

Basically, I was greatly inspired by the theme of Russian spies, trying to complete their mission, surviving, and looking good at the same time.

Ironic or what, as a design/ architecture student, i believe that we should be inspired by our surroundings to create our piece of magic. After watching the season finale of Project Runway Canada, i just wanted to create a kit/design capable of being owned/affordable by every single person so that more lives can be saved.

Its very much fashion inspired-fast forward, looking into the future when disaster is here, maybe wearing something you like could lighten up your day?

My sketches of my design/invention/approach.

Argues:
what does a mere clothing line have to do with a survival kit? i mean those are just clothes, i could get a sweater on and keep myself warm. In chaotic times, who wants to care about appearance?

To start with, this is not just any mere clothing line, its a design survival kit capable of keeping our bodies insulated(better than the clothes of your hanger). These designs come together with other survival tools stored within and the best thing is that its cheap, eco-friendly and light!
Who cares about appearace? All of us do, won't we? So, its your choice to survive looking good or the other way.

Conclusion:

Its that simple to be SEXY and to SURVIVE at the same time.
I did some sketches and shading while handling this assignment.
Learnt more about editing, and knowing my design aesthetic.

Merdeka-DId Sprint missed it???

It was an event anticipated by me-YouthJam2010. and guess what? our team-Sprint was chosen to perform a theaterette. We were excited, enthusiastic, ready to have some action of our own. It was like HBP gone wild..haha...

However, things did not go as planned, when team Sprint gathered in the middle ready to perform, apparently, the emcee missed our mock performance and started the countdown. . Despair, merdeka, and we missed our mark...great news..huh?? No Performing....

Then, we Sprint gathered together in the middle and i was like jumping(possessed maybe) and urged my other teammates to jump and shout along with me..and we went MERDEKA MERDEKA(just pure shouting) and it gone lunatic..apparently the whole crowd started following is...then the Band-4 minutes came out and belted out " if we ever meet again" ,"I don't wanna be"and various songs to mark the day of INdependence..and we all had a great time jumping in circles...shouting...jumping..

the link to our team's blog...
http://www.thesprints-breakinghorizons.blogspot.com/

the biggest lesson i received reflecting back is that things may not be as planned , we might fail to seize the chance to shine, yet, just enjoy the moment! Pursuing the field of architecture is gonna be a dog eat dogs world. Everyone would be trying to pull you down, we might miss our chance...yet..i just wanna remember that moment where I enjoyed every moment through rain or shine.

This is because i believe that Life/architecture...is a journey. A true winner is the one who enjoys, learns and benefits the most from the entire JOURNEY!!! SO, did Sprint missed it? yea..maybe performace wise but that was only 1 part...we enjoyed so much more

Fall into a Rabbit Hole

Raya break starts on Fri(no studio) since i am only going back to Ipoh on Sun, i went to Penang's heritage site to admire the rich heritage, architecture and also gather some information for my S.H.E assignment. All i can say is that Malaysia is such a culture-rich melting pot. She(M'sia) is just amazing with so much history and beautiful stories to be uncovered..So, learn to appreciate and blend yourself into these historically significant, intricately sculpted architecture as Malaysia is our HOME.

ohya...Laurence loh was the architect responsible for the restoration of Khoo Kongsi (grandest chinese clan house in the world)and other famous landmarks...Suffolk House, Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion. and apparently, 1b often associates me to this great man saying that i resemble him physically when he was young..i take that as a compliment indeed...he is amazing,,
so, look into the past ..don't always think the present and future, take a time travel experience and fall into a rabbit hole(Alice in Wonderland) and enjoy the remnants of our forefathers

Raining Umbrellas!

http://www.crazyjunkyard.com/umbrellas-covered-street/

Red umbrellas....wow...5th year Archi students assembling red umbrellas to create a visual assembly that would catch the attention of a passer-by and just bringing life to a dull and mundane street...Gosh.i wish HBP USM could come up with projects like these...i mean its like visual pleasing + the budget is kinda low..i mean....the school could sponsor each student RM 5 for an umbrella while the student could pay the remaining $....this would be like a great impact...i mean like showing us that we students from a MAlaysian uni could bring drama and create something which blows your 1st mind away with some team effort...

looking at this makes me feel amteaur over the previous assignments....haizzz...i got to level up myself to be on par with students globally...i got to breakthrough!!!!

Towards a More Mature approach

have veen lepaking at Resource centre lately and browsing through some archi+design magazines...SPACE really caught my eye..1 issue showcased an expo (forgot name) themed-Beyond Architecture ..and this expo managed to attract the participation of countries such as Japan, Poland, Germany, France, UK, US....

Among the ideas , the concept, the Point of view, the creative process and thoughts, ideas really struck my mind....THe winner was The poland pavillion themed...Hotel Polivia(something like that) and it showcases the after life and present architecture..I mean we as humans having our own beliefs believe in after life...hell and heaven but to relate it to architecture just simply tells me that it is all up to your creative process....The polish showcased the after life of buildings after a certain period of years, seeing how these building continue to function(maybe of diff purpose) ...these ideas are crazy,.

I remeber 1 drew inspiration from a game of chess...the Japanese tried to build a garden..with no barriers....some had crazy themes....but inspirational i can say...

thus, i instantly told myself to take a more mature approach to my following designs and not design merely for the aesthethic value but also consider the concept of design and treating architecture as a product which impacts social lifes, shaping the way people meet, gather, function, breathe ..
